About Nubia Burgess-Henry MSW, LSW

I approach my work with the profound belief that we all carry some form of trauma that shapes our lives. It’s with this understanding that I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where you can truly be your authentic self. My goal is to help you unpack the challenges and situations you have faced and are currently navigating, knowing that we can face them together.

My background has equipped me with extensive experience working with diverse populations and complex issues. In my training, I provided case management and supportive conversations to juveniles in a residential program. In a higher education setting, I offered guidance to students dealing with interpersonal violence (IPV), domestic violence (DV), stalking, and sexual assault (SA), helping them navigate difficult personal circumstances and institutional systems. I've also worked with older adults in nursing homes and non-profit settings and with students with varying disabilities, providing behavior modification and individualized treatment plans.

My specialized area is domestic violence, and I have experience using Trauma-Informed Care and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My approach is rooted in the belief that we all have the capacity for healing and growth. I believe in a collaborative effort, where we work as a team to help you emerge from challenges feeling empowered and equipped with the skills to move forward. My life philosophy and my professional approach are one and the same: I cannot ask you to do the hard work if I'm not doing it myself. I am dedicated to living the life that I promote to others.

One of the most profound things I’ve learned as a professional is that resistance and anger are often secondary feelings, rooted in fear and hurt. At the end of the day, people just want to be heard and seen. This is why I view great rapport, collaboration, and even a bit of humor as key components of a strong therapeutic relationship. I chose this profession because I've experienced challenging times in my own life and realized my support system wasn't fully equipped to help me in the ways I needed. I want to be that person who can effectively help others navigate their own unique challenges. What I love most about this work is seeing the small and big wins people experience as they take control of their lives.

My commitment is to walk alongside you, offering a safe and collaborative space to explore your experiences and build a life that feels authentic and fulfilling to you. I look forward to the opportunity to connect with you and support you on your journey toward healing and growth.
